Flanged Nut - Features And Applications

Flanged Nut:

A ‘Flanged Nut’ is a kind of ‘Fastener Nut’ that has a plate-like structure or a wide flange at one end & acts as a conjoint washer. This helps to distribute the pressure of the nut while securing the part, preventing the chance of damage to the part and stopping it from loosening when subjected to the rough surface.

The Flange nut is designed for special uses in assemblies where over fastening and vibrations could damage fastener and the part. These wide flange nuts have small serrations which hold with great friction or give a locking action. The nuts are commonly in a hexagonal shape that are made up of hardened steel and coated with Zinc.

Flange nuts are often provided with a swivel flange which helps in making an extra stability without affecting the product or material surface like a serrated flange nut. Swivel flange nuts are commonly used in joining plastic items or wooden pieces. In some cases both sides of the nut are serrated, allowing to get locked on either side.

The Features are:

1. Needs heavy force to loosen it than to tighten a flange nut.
2. Flange base distributes pressure evenly without damaging the product.
3. This nut acts as a conjoint washer.
4. The serrations on the nut prevent vibration & loosening.
5. Steel & zinc plated is a common material and finishing helps in preventing corrosion.

The Applications are:

1. Assembling machinery parts.
2. Used in plumbing applications.
3. Some household appliances.
4. Used for joining metal parts or sheets.

Coupling Nut - Features And Applications

Coupling Nut:

A ‘Coupling Nut’, also known as ‘Long Nut’ is a long threaded ‘Fastener-Nut’ used for joining two male threaded fasteners, most commonly a ‘Stud’ which is also a relatively long rod. The coupling fastener is a hex shaped nut that can be tightened & loosened with a handheld wrench.

These nuts are manufactured using a cold forged and hot forged technique depending on its applications. The coating used for these nuts is Electro-Zinc Plating, hot dip galvanizing; phosphate coating, silver plating, chrome plating and many other coatings are also done.

A Coupling Nuts length varies from 3mm to 20mm clearly giving a firm grip to the threaded rods. So these nuts are also called as ‘Extension Nuts.’

The Several types of the ‘Coupling Nuts’ are:

1. Left-handed Nuts: These are used to make long joints from a shorter length of the studs using coupling nuts.
2. Sight Hole Nuts: A hole on the side of a nut allows visual verification that the threads are engaged.
3. Reducing Long Nuts: This kind of nut has a bigger end and a smaller end at the fastener that allows joining of two different size thread bolts.

A ‘Coupling Nut’ is internal finely gripped threads that hold the threaded rods or studs significantly overcoming the compressive stress in the two mating threads and a tensile strength in the coupling nut without loosening over the time period. Also, they are available in the various metal forms such as Brass, Stainless steel & Aluminium.

The Features of Coupling Nut are:

1. Greatly customized with higher dimensional accuracy.
2. Supreme strength with a perfect grip.
3. Black-oxide finish protects from corrosion.
4. Engagement of the studs can be visualized from a small hole.
5. Higher tensile strength and longer durability.

The Applications Of Coupling Nut are:

1. Engineering Applications.
2. Automotive assemblies.
3. Oil fields.

T-Nut - Features And Applications

T-Nut:

A ‘T-Nut’ or ‘Tee-Nut’ is a type of ‘Fastener’ used to fasten wooden materials, workpiece or to join composite materials, leaving a smooth surface. T-nut is also known as ‘Insert nut’ or ‘Rivet nut’ or Blind nut.

This nut has a long, thin circular or square body and flange at one end, resembling a T in structure. The flange structure may vary from nut to nut. Some have a smooth finish, while others have sharp hooks or claws on the prongs that insert into the wood as the bolt is fastened from the opposite side of the piece, thus giving a better confinement.

These nuts have better been fixing than normal screws, where screws fail to hold the wooden material. After installing a nut, a common suitable bolt is used to join matching parts together. In general, T-nuts are more productive than wood screws. They give the firm holding the bolt and material, less likely to cause splits or crack in any type of wood.

The advantage of using T-nut is that parts can be mass-produced, assembled and reassembled for transportation. These nuts withstand movement & vibration as they have sharp prongs that grip material-piece, such as cardboard, thus superior to wood screws, which tend to strip.

The Features Of T Nut are:

1. It is Zinc plated so less corrosive.
2. It is designed to fit along a T-slot track on a workbench or machine table.
3. High-quality steel.
4. Available in various sizes and specifications.

The Applications Of T Nut are:

1. In setting Office cabinets.
2. In joining wheel in the chairs and casters.
3. Assembling of the wooden beds and chairs.
4. For marine or corrosion resistant applications.
5. It is used in hard and soft woods.
6. In assembling plywood door & windows.

C Washers - Features And Its Applications

C-Washer:

The ‘C-Washer’ is a ‘C-Shaped’ thin metal plate or plastic structure with an opening on one of the sides that is normally used to distribute the load of threaded fasteners. A form-C, the washer has a large diameter & normal thickness designed to be slid in & out of its place on a bolt. It acts as a wear pad, locking device, spacer, spring, load indicating washer, and to cut vibration.

C-washer or generally all washers are used in between a nut and bolt. Almost all the washers have an outer diameter (OD) about twice their inner diameter (ID), but sometimes vice versa. Flat C-Washer’s giving stability to bolts or screws by providing a bearing surface, thus preventing the fasteners from loosening when subjected to stress or pressure pulling through the material. They also fill the excess space between the bolt and the nut, thus giving a perfect tightening grip.

The Features are:

1. Higher Corrosion resistance.
2. Suitable for all types of nuts & bolts,
3. Provides a smooth surface & tight fastening between the nut & bolt.
4. These washers give stability & prevent vibration of fasteners.
5. Higher tensile properties.
6. Low surface friction.

The Applications are:

1. Automotive assemblies.
2. Metal furniture fixings.
3. Industrial Appliances.
4. Electrical connections.
5. Household Appliances.
6. All fastener applications.

Cut-Off Machine - Features And Applications

Cut-Off Machine:

An ‘Abrasive Saw’, also known as ‘Cutoff Saw Machine’ is a ‘Power Tool’ which is typically used to cut hard materials, such as metal bars, ceramic tiles, and Concrete. The cutting action is performed by a rough surface abrasive disc, similar to a grinding wheel.

Specifically speaking, this is not a cutting saw, as it does not use the regularly shaped-sharp edged blade for cutting. An abrasive disc grinds the metal surface bit by bit repeatedly to cut apart.

These saws are available in a number of models; some are:

Table Top: This kind of cutoff machine is mounted on a table and is fixed to the table for stability while working. Generally used for cutting tiles and metals.

Walk behind Models: These machines are larger saws which use a stand or small cart to cut into asphalt, concrete materials and pipe work on construction work.

Free Hand: It is a free hand portable saw a machine that can be easily held in hand. The motor is near the operator, with the blade at the far end of the saw machine and a handle to move as per the cut needed.

The Cutting abrasive saws typically made of complex friction circular disc blades to cut through the steel material. These discs are consumable items as they wear throughout the cutting process. Discs are typically 14 inches (360 mm) in diameter and 7⁄84 inches (2.8 mm) thick.

A larger saws use 410 mm (16 inches) diameter blades. Some are special discs are available for cutting stainless steel & metal bars. Abrasive blades use super-abrasive blades made of Cubic Boron Nitride and Diamond, which are more durable than conventional abrasive materials.

Features:

1. Fiberglass sheets on both sides for durability & safety.
2. Has 30 to 40 horsepower Engine with anti-vibration technology.
3. Diamond or CBN blades give the smooth cut & finish.
4. High cutting Efficiency.

Applications:

1. In cutting metal rods.
2. In making Aluminium Furniture.
3. Cutting pipes in working sites.

Electric Chain Saw - Features And Applications

Electric Chain Saw:

An ‘Electric chain Saw’ is a powerful, handheld, mechanical saw which cuts with a set of sharp teeth attached to a rotating chainsaw that runs along a guide bar of a machine. It is widely used in cutting or sawing of trees, woods, tree felling, harvesting of firewood and many other activities.

In Chainsaws machine a long chain that runs along a guide bar has sharp curved teeth attached all along the chain that cut repeatedly through the material leaving sawdust. This technique is used as a tool in chainsaw mills. Some specialized chainsaws are used for cutting concrete or asphalt.

There are various parts in Chain Saw machine:

Engine: The powerful Engine in the chainsaw makes the cutting faster. An electric motor is driven by an electric power cord with a rated Input Power by 2,000W. These have special engines that are designed in such a way that they may be operated in different positions, upside-down, or tilted 90 degrees.

Guide Bar: A long bar on which a chainsaw runs is typically 16 to 36 inches in length. The guide bar has a round end made of alloy-steel with high wear-resistant.

Gauge: The lower part of chainsaw runs in the gauge; here lubricating oil is taken by the chain to the other end. This is an important mechanism.

Grease Holes: Through this hole, grease is filled in a small tank which keeps the sprocket well lubricated.

Cutting Chain: The each segment in the chain has small curved sharp cutting teeth. The teeth are made of chromium-plated steel that is attached on either side & one on the top of a chainsaw.

The Features of Electric Chain Saw:

1. Quick stops super chain brake.
2. Cuts faster with power rated 2000 Watts.
3. Automatic inbuilt oiling system.
4. Low noise & vibrations.
5. Long cable length (10 m) for easy mobility.

The Applications of Electric Chain Saw:

1. Tree felling.
2. Harvesting of firewood.
3. Road repair works.
4. Cutting of large ice sculptures.
5. Specialized chainsaws are used for cutting concrete.
