Identification And Traceability Of Every Component Or Every Produced Item

A assembly is usually identified by its batch number and its serial number provides the identification of the individual assembly ( example in case of Cars a VIN number is used, which clearly indicates when, where was it made and what kind of passenger car its is), Like wise a serial number can identify when and where it was produced and what machines or production lines did the assembly go through.

An assembly typically has several components example a car has Gears, Axle, Tie Rods, and several sub assembly.

Each Assembly can be identified with its serial number, which must clearly state when the assembly was completed, what date was it shipped, which plant produced it and finally which production lines did it go through.

Each sub assembly component must also be identified by its serial numbers, which clearly should state what date it was made, When was it shipped, which facility was it made, What material, Material cert number or code, Production lines or machines used.

This level of identification can trace to a man, machine and material level including its production location. The Identification could be done based on the END USERS nomenclature for example a Power Generator can have following Identification 11102017USMIDET11112017RB1-21ST1045
Here 2017 can be the year of manufacture 11 can be the month, 10 day the Generator was made in USA, Michigan Detroit plant shipped on 11th day of November 2017, RB1-21 tells us that it was made using Robot1 to 21 , with 1045 steel as material.

Like wise we could trace it down to individual component level. Each component could be barcoded and scanned after completion of a major operation.

The above identification method can help the End User to manage supply chain efficiently in the following ways:

1. The production flow can be traced to the smallest component in the supply chain.
2. Shortages or any blockage in production can be detected in advance and alternate arrangements can be made.
3. If there are inherent complicated quality issue, it can be isolated to a component and to particular batch pertinent to an assembly line or manufacturing/machining cell.
4. The microscopic identification and Traceability ensures a SYSTEMATIC Root cause investigation and target an accurate bug in the system.
5. It also assures correct material has been used for every component.
6. It enhances the Quality and reliability of the final application.
7. Reduces the requirement of spare parts.

We at www.inventorygain.com have the Facility Of  Identification and Traceability of the every component.
