Circular Saw - Features And Applications

Circular Saw:

A ‘Circular Saw’ is a kind of ‘Power tool’ that uses a toothed blade or abrasive disc or sharp-edged blade to cut different materials using a rotary motion that is fixed around a spindle or axle.

The Circular saw is a tool for cutting many materials such as wooden logs, wood, masonry, metal or plastic and it may be handheld or mounted on a table. A Handheld Circular saw is the most conventional form of circular saw generally used in woodworking. The other, common forms of a circular saw are ‘Table Saw’ and ‘Chop Saw.’

Saw blades are specially designed to cut a particular material that is meant to cut; it can’t be used to cut other materials where it may lower the blade’s cutting efficiency. The handheld circular blades are designed for making crosscuts, rip-cuts or a combination of both cuts. A common example is ‘Miter Saw’ mounted to swing to cross-cut wood at an angle.

A circular saw has many parts, some of the important are:

1. Main Shoe Plate: This is a steel plate gives a perfect levelling while making a straight cut.

2. Trigger Switch: This switch is to start a blade’s momentum & also used to stop the blade’s momentum. When the trigger is released suddenly a reverse flow of electricity takes place in the saw motor, this makes the blade to stop instantly.

3. Blade Guard: This is a safety guard which protects the blade from getting damaged by hard materials and protects the user from getting harmed.

4. Adjustment Knob: This knob adjusts the saw blade as per the cutting depth required.

The Features Of Circular Saw are:

1. Narrow cut with smooth surface finish.
2. Saw settings can be done easily.
3. Releasing trigger suddenly stops the blade momentum which prevents harming.
4. Cuts are straight & relatively right.
5. Cutting is made by teeth on the edge of a High-speed steel blade or by an abrasive disc.

The Applications Of  Circular Saw are:

1. Saw with a diamond blade for cutting asphalt & concrete.
2. The handheld saw is used in wooden works.
3. In Aluminium furniture works.
4. To cut big woods and logs in sawmills.
5. In Masonry works such as cutting of bricks or tiles.
