About The Concept Of Ball Bearings And Its Classifications Along With Its Applications

A “Ball Bearing” is a mechanical device which consists of number tiny hard balls running in grooves on the surfaces of two concentric metal rings, one of which is fitted on a rotating shaft. They provide smooth movement, lower coefficient of friction and bear axial load in rotary applications. The size of the ball bearings varies from, smaller than a grain of wheat (small enough to fit in a wrist watch) to nearly a meter in diameter for industrial and power plant turbines.

The General Classification of Ball Bearings Based on Load Handling Capabilities is:

1. Radial ball bearing - handles radial loads.
2. Thrust ball bearing - handles axial loads.
3. Angular contact ball bearing - handles axial and radial loads.

The Some of the Applications of ball bearings are:

1. In Automotive industries.
2. In Agricultural harvesting equipment’s.
3. In Industrial turbines, this has high quality bearings.
4. Wrist watches and wall clocks.
5. Used in Aircraft to design special Jet engines and in Railway engines.
